Help us build the
Archive.
Songa Mocap is a community-driven project. Whether you are a performer, a technical artist, or a supporter, there are four ways you can help us preserve these movements.
Send Reference Video
Don't have a mocap suit? No problem. We use AI-assisted tools to convert high-quality video footage into motion data.
Requirements: Stationary camera, full body in frame, good lighting, tight clothing.
Submit Mocap Files
Are you a studio or artist with existing data of African movement forms? Contribute your FBX or BVH files to the open library.
License: All contributions must be cleared for CC0 (Public Domain) release.
Record with Us
Depending on location and availability, we can schedule on-location recording in Kenya. If you are a performer who wants to be archived, let us know.
Note: Sessions are subject to funding and geographic logistics.
Support the Research
Maintaining an open-source archive costs money. Your Patreon support helps cover server costs, travel for field recordings, and compensation for our performers.
Submission Guidelines
- Rights & Consent: By submitting video or mocap data, you acknowledge that you are the creator or have explicit permission from the performer.
- Open Source: All assets added to the Songa Archive will be distributed under a CC0 (Public Domain) license to ensure maximum accessibility for artists.
- Video Formats: We prefer MP4 or MOV files shot at 60fps if possible. The performer must be fully visible from head to toe.
- Review Process: All submissions are reviewed by our cultural team to ensure accuracy in naming and description before being published.
